Expedition style travelling – we do not take a trip, a trip takes us..

We cannot guarantee that all dives and shore landings will take place or that they will include all the events we’ve outlined in advance. Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy—and excitement—of expedition-style travel, and a measure of flexibility is something all of us must bring along on the voyage.

Day 1 embarkation in Ushuaia, Argentina

Day 2 – 3 At sea crossing the Drake passage

Day 4- 7 (and day 8)

We will sail through Dallman Bay on our way to the Melchior Islands where we might have our first landing and zodiac cruising. We start our first day in Antarctica with a mandatory check-out dive at an easy accessible site to get accustomed to the cold water and adjust your weights. Our dive guides will be with you in the water to assist you with your equipment. Diving in Antarctica is serious stuff and safety is our first priority. Being comfortable in the water with your equipment is essential. The first dive might be at Foyn Harbour, where we dive the ship wreck of a Norwegian Whaling Transport Vessel, which burnt and sank here in 1916, creating an excellent dive site.
In the proximity of Cuverville Island we have plenty possibilities to find good sites and take our time for some great diving. We have good chances to dive with Gentoo penguins and Leopard Seals and dive a nice wall with lots of benthic life. In the evening we enjoy the beautifull scenery by a ships cruise through Neumayer Channel on our way further south.
We may visit Port Lockroy, which was a major haven for whalers until 1930. It became a British Research Base on meteorology in 1943 and is now restored as an Historic hut. In the surrounding waters we will find lots of whale bones scattered around.
Sailing further south through the magnificent landscape of the Lemaire channel, we will be diving around Pleneau and Argentine Islands with good chances of spotting Gentoo Penguins ‘flying’ through the water. Also Humpback Whales and Minke Whales are often seen in this area, especially in February- March. Weddell Seals and Leopard Seals are great subjects for photography, in the water, as well as on land.
Our last dive will be around the Ukrainian Scientific Station Vernadskiy, which covers a few of the most spectacular dive sites we have explored so far.
Day 9 - 10 At sea crossing the Drake passage

Day 11 Disembarkation Ushuaia.
